If you’re looking to save yourself some Gil and make your own Archeo gear in Final Fantasy XIV, you’re going to need some hard-to-come-by resources. Of course, you could buy them on the Marketboard, but this quickly grows expensive.

Ipe Lumber is a common ingredient in the new level 100, iLvl 710 crafted Archeo gear. You need two materials to make Ipe Lumber:

• Ipe Logs
• Xbr’aal Varnish

Fortunately, both are easy to come by if you know how — one is from Tomestones and the other is a special timed node available in Dawntrail.

How to get Tomes of Folklore in Final Fantasy XIV

Each expansion comes with its own Tomes of Folklore. These books work in a similar way to Master Recipes, allowing gatherers to find nodes which otherwise wouldn’t appear. These nodes invariably yield rare materials, such as is the case with Ipe Logs. 

To purchase Dawntrail’s Tomes of Folklore, speak to any Scrip Exchange vendor and select the category ‘Gatherers’ Scrips (Regional Folklore/Materials/Misc.)'. Then, underneath, select the subcategory of ‘Purple Scrip Exchange (Lv. 100 Folklore Items)'. Each Tome costs 1600 Purple Gatherers’ Scrips.

To get Ipe Logs, you’ll need to purchase the ‘Tome of Botanical Folklore - Yok Tural’. 

How to get Ipe Logs in Final Fantasy XIV

Now that you know how to get the Regional Folklore you need, you can finally move on to getting Ipe Logs. However, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve got a perception level of at least 4480, which is easily achieved by melding a pile of Gatherer’s Guile materia onto your gear. These can be purchased through the Scrip Exchange or on the Marketboard. 

Ipe Logs spawn in level 100 Legendary Mature Trees in the southeastern corner of Kozama’uka (shown above). These are time locked nodes, and you’ll need to head to Kozama’uka via the Earthenshire Aetheryte between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. or 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. 

These aren’t collectables, and you’ll get six chances to get as many Ipe Logs as you can per round, so make sure to use Blessed Harvest II in order to maximize your Yield. 

How to get Xbr’aal Varnish in Final Fantasy XIV

Thankfully, getting your hands on Xbr’aal Varnish is very easy, as long as you’ve bene running  your Daily Roulettes and stocking up on Tomestones of Aesthetics.

To get Xbr’aal Varnish, head to Solution Nine and talk to Zircon in the Nexus Arcade (X:8.6, Y:13.6), selecting ‘Allagan Tomestones of Aesthetics (Other)’. You’ll find a selection of new ingredients here, including Xbr’aal Varnish, for 20 Tomestones of Aesthetics each.

How to make Ipe Lumber in Final Fantasy XIV

Once you’ve gathered the two base ingredients, you’re also going to need to purchase at least one Master Recipe book for your Carpenter. Once you’ve done that, you can get to crafting. 

To make one Ipe Lumber, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• 4 Ipe Logs
• 2 Xbr’aal Varnish

You’ll need your craftsmanship to be at least 4,740 in order to craft Ipe Lumber, which again can be achieved by piling materia onto your gear. In this case, you’ll need Craftsman’s Competence materia.
