According to Bloomberg, the waves of layoffs at Ubisoft Entertainment continued this week with 45 jobs being cut from its San Francisco and Cary, North Carolina offices. Paired with previous layoffs earlier this year at Ubisoft Toronto as well as in its global publishing and Asia-Pacific teams, Ubisoft is approaching a total reduction in headcount of over 1,800 since 2022. The layoffs come less than a month after Ubisoft reported first-quarter 2024-25 net bookings of €290.0 million, €15.0 million more ahead of its target for the quarter. According to Ubisoft's public Investor report regarding Q1 sales, the company had a 'Solid start to the year with Q1 net bookings ahead of target' and 'Robust engagement metrics driven by our GaaS franchises.' The report also mentions a strong upcoming release slate with Star Wars Outlaws set to release on August 30, 2024, and Assassin's Creed Shadows targeting a November 15, 2024 release date. A Ubisoft spokesperson issued a statement that the "difficult yet necessary decision was made to align these studios' organizations with their future business and development objectives." The spokesperson also indicated that the affected employees will receive severance and career assistance. Ubisoft's website indicates that there are 21,000 employees and more than 45 development studios and business offices around the world. The Ubisoft Cary team had recently been working on Assassin's Creed Nexus VR and the recently canceled The Division Heartland. Ubisoft San Franciso typically works on a variety of projects including the Rocksmith series and recently released free-to-play shooter xDefiant.
